How To Maintain the SD 501 Device

The quality of the water from your tap will influence how frequently you need to clean the device, so the following recommendations depend on the water quality from your tap and water usage amount. (If you have extremely hard water, or are copiously sharing your water with many people, you may need to clean your device more frequently.) White flakes in your water are not normal and indicate the device needs cleaning. White powder (calcium) inside bottles or glasses in which you regularly drink Kangen water is normal, and can be cleaned off by soaking the container in any kind of vinegar overnight.

1. Select the yellow acid water button and make one gallon of Beauty Water first thing every day. (Use Beauty Water to wash glass, windows, floors, wooden tile floors, to water acid-loving plants like roses or hydrangeas, or warm and use to bathe your own skin and for your pet.) This prolongs the life of your machine, and may even double the 15-year life expectancy.

2. Clean the electrode surface of your device with the disposable Cleaning Cartridge approximately every three (3) months. ($18.00 + shipping); more frequently if you have very hard water; or well water. If pH drops, run one.

3. Change the Filter approximately every six (6) months; order early!

       a. Regular Filter is $90.00 + shipping.

       b. High Grade Filter (Removes lead, magnesium & mercury) is $120.00 +shipping.    the High Grade Filter is what comes with the SD 501. We recommend that you continue to use the High Grade Filter.

4. It is recommended that you have the manufacturer do an official cleaning if you are not cleaning as above and the water will not come out. Cost is $35.00 + two-way shipping costs. Gratefully, this is an option! Unlike the knockoffs)

5. If your tap water is acidic (i.e., if it flows over volcanic rock), you may send a sample of your water to Enagic along with your machine, and they can specially calibrate your machine. Call Enagic for instructions.

6. Electrolysis Enhancer is utilized by the device only when making Strong Kangen (Strong Acid) water, and can be ordered from Enagic as well, for a cost of 3 bottles for $10.00. Order ahead so you never run out!

7. In areas of very hard water, you may purchase the two stage, $98.00 pre-filter and mount it under the sink or on the counter top, between the tap and the device. A pre-filter will triple the life of the device’s filter immensely; you can now get 10,000 gallons before a change instead of 3,000 gallons, saving money in the long run. Replacements less than $50 on both cartridges.
